米ノースカロライナ州立大学デザイン学部・デザイン学研究科(College of Desgin)の

ロナルド・メイスだと言われている

彼は当時カリフォルニアのユニバーサルデザインセンター長だった

基本コンセプトは、「できるだけ多くの人が利用可能であるようなデザイン」というもの。
